If you’re looking for authentic feel and taste, come here. Quality is top notch. They import their fish from Japan.

Real, elite level Japanese sushi. Get the omakase at the sushi bar. It is worth every penny.

Top quality; resto is quiet, but service is friendly and quick. Owners have chosen to keep their regular patrons happy, instead of widening their market.

The flash-seared fatty salmon (omakase only) from here is the best sushi I've ever tasted. This place doesn't look like much but it is truly special.

We live on UES for the third year and two of them are going to Inase. It is cozy, delicious and not crowded. The couple who runs it very nice and their Omakase is the best. I highly recomend it!

This place is awesome. Nervous for the day for people to uncover this gem. They are consistent and everything is done right. Definitely no-frills, no fancy sauces or weird presentations. The way sushi should be. You aren't overpaying for lipstick on a pig like elsewhere. With that said, the fish is VERY good and very fresh. I would put it up there with the best of them. The chef and manager/waitress are happy to see you, they treat you like they are honored to have you.Love the fact that it's in my neighborhood and am now going at least once a week. However I did get charged $2 for a side of salt to go, for my Edamame.

Unapologetically and unflinchingly authentic Japanese sushi place true to its art. I am very lucky and happy to have found a place with its soul in Japan in the middle of Manhattan. For those looking for the westernized rolls with cream cheese and spicy mayo and the like, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is calm and meditative, and the food does not hold back on its wasabi. However, if you want a glimpse of the art and skill that goes into crafting sushi, this is certainly a great place to start.

This restaurant is not only a neighborhood gem, it is one of the finest Japanese restaurant in NYC. It is run by a husband and wife team. The sushi chef is the owner and takes great pride in the freshness and quality of the fish he serves. He is the only sushi chef behind the counter so the quality is consistently excellent. Seating size is limited.

Inase is an amazing, husband and wife owned gem on the Upper East Side. A true beacon of what sushi should be, filling the perfect space between over-the-top fancy sushi and mediocre take out. I recently moved to the area and finally decided to try this place out. Even though it's easy to walk past, it's absolutely worth stopping in. Their fish is always extremely fresh and the staff are incredibly friendly. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing their Omakase (they have 2 options, I did the more expensive one for $120). It was the only Omakase I've been to that actually left me full! We had 3 or 4 appetizers before the sushi even started. Everything was so tasty (especially the Amberjack and tuna!) I can't recommend this place enough, if you're in the area, definitely drop by and try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed!

A quaint little hole in the wall serving super fresh and quality sushi and other traditional Japanese dishes.Super fresh tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallops, eel and more are at your beck and call. The sushi rice was cooked properly without being dry or chewy or oversaturated with rice vinegar.Less common dishes such as natto bean sushi and monkfish liver were available. This brings great joy to me as I love these dishes.Steamed egg custard with mushroom was really fantastic. Miso cod was heavenly. Fried gyoza was delicious. Instead of getting the default steamed shumai, I strongly recommend getting it fried. The only knock against this restaurant was the interior design and ambience. Such beautiful dishes that mismatched with the environment.

New sushi chef took over this small sushi restaurant last August. He maintains the traditional Japanese sushi here. If you look for authentic sushi, I recommend you try this restaurant.

This is a little gem of a place specializing in traditional sushi run by a friendly local Japanese couple. One day it will be discovered and will be hard to get in so go while you can! We used to live in this neighborhood and moved away years ago but still occassionally trek to this far corner of UES to visit one of our favorite places in NY. The decor is interesting and there are only about 10 tables plus the sushi bar (recommended) but trust me it is good. You will not get American-style sushi like spicy tuna rolls but you will get something special and unique among most NYC sushi restaurants. We usually get the Omakase and it is very Japanese style, often including some interesting dishes not usually seen in the USA. If you are in the area and/or love Japanese food, support this local business!
